Sarah Reed Rejoins Charles River Ventures as General Counsel
WALTHAM, Mass. (June 4, 2009) – Charles River Ventures (CRV), one of the nation’s leading early-stage venture capital firms, today announced that Sarah Reed has rejoined the firm as General Counsel. Most recently, she was with Lowenstein Sandler PC working in the TechGroup where she focused her practice on venture and private equity funds and venture-backed start-ups. Reed previously spent seven years with CRV as General Counsel.
“We are thrilled to welcome Sarah back to CRV,” said Bruce Sachs, general partner at CRV. “Sarah’s sharp eye and strategic counsel have been invaluable to CRV and our portfolio companies over periods of economic highs and lows and we look forward to working with her again as we uncover the next generation of innovators.”
Reed joined CRV originally in 2000. She is a recognized expert on legal aspects of venture capital financings. In addition to publishing or contributing to articles in business periodicals such as Business Law Today, Venture Capital Review and The Boston Business Journal, she is a frequent lecturer at national industry forums, continuing legal education programs and leading business and law schools. In addition, Reed is the founding chairperson of an industry-wide, NVCA-endorsed initiative to create model venture financing legal documents. For her work in this area, the NVCA awarded Reed with its Outstanding Contribution to the Venture Industry Award at its 2007 Annual Meeting in Washington, DC.
“Venture and private equity are my lifelong professional passion. As many look to venture to buoy the economy with capital infusions, I am eager to resume my work at CRV at this crucial inflection point for the venture world and the economy at large,” said Reed.
Prior to joining CRV, Reed was General Counsel at Palomar Medical Technologies, Inc., a Nasdaq-listed laser medical device manufacturer. Prior to Palomar, Reed worked with the Boston firm of Foley, Hoag & Eliot LLP where she covered a variety of areas including venture capital financings, private placements, IPO’s and SEC reporting, as well as commercial litigation.
Reed earned her BA from Harvard College in East Asian studies (she is fluent in Mandarin Chinese) and her JD from Harvard Law School, both cum laude.
